From July 22 to 25, 2026, the enchanting Isonzo Park in Fiumicello Villa Vicentina will once again transform into a breathtaking open-air gallery and performance space for the 18th edition of AESON — Italy's premier eco-festival dedicated to the harmony between creativity and the environment. This free event offers four immersive days of performances, concerts, land art installations, and multimedia experiences that interact with the river ecosystem in profound and surprising ways.
Founded in 2008 by the Association Ecopark, AESON has grown from a small local initiative into one of Europe's most innovative environmental art festivals, attracting artists and visitors from across the globe. The festival's name — an acronym for "Arti e Ambiente Energia Sociale Natura" (Art, Environment, Energy, Society, Nature) — perfectly encapsulates its mission: to create meaningful dialogues between artistic expression and the natural world.
AESON LIMINAL: Thresholds of the Living
The 2026 edition marks a significant evolution as it becomes part of the broader "AESON LIMINAL" framework — a new three-year project cycle (2026–2028) that expands beyond the festival grounds to traverse the entire Friuli Venezia Giulia region as a space of research, encounter, and transformation.
Liminality — meaning threshold, passage, and change — is the guiding concept. The project explores the areas of landscape transformation: rivers, embankments, rural zones, and natural areas where nature, memory, and contemporary life intertwine. These marginal places exist between the human and the wild, inviting us to deepen our understanding of biological and cultural heterogeneity while building new social and community values.

About AESON Festival
AESON is an environmental art festival and long-term cultural project that takes place along the banks of the Isonzo River in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy. Since its origins, the festival has explored the relationship between art, landscape, and community, transforming natural spaces into open-air galleries and stages for creative expression.
The festival brings together artists, performers, researchers, and local communities to reflect on ecological transformation, a sense of place, and the dialogue between human and non-human life. Each edition unfolds through site-specific artworks, installations, performances, soundscapes, and workshops, all created in close harmony with the natural environment.
AESON's artistic direction embraces Land Art and environmental practices, encouraging sustainable production and the use of organic, recovered, or locally sourced materials. The works are conceived to coexist with the landscape — sometimes ephemeral, sometimes becoming part of a permanent artistic trail that traces the river's flow. Over the years, nearly 50 land art installations have been created, forming what may be the world's largest dispersed Land Art park.
Parco sull'Isonzo
The Isonzo Park (Parco sull'Isonzo) in Fiumicello Villa Vicentina serves as the heart of the festival. This beautiful municipal park stretches along the emerald waters of the Isonzo River, offering a stunning natural amphitheater of trees, gravel banks, and riverside forests that provide the perfect setting for immersive art experiences.
The park's unique ecosystem — situated near the Nature Reserve of the Isonzo River Mouth (Riserva Naturale Foce dell'Isonzo) — is one of the most biodiverse areas in Northern Italy, home to numerous bird species, native flora, and the characteristic emerald waters that give the river its poetic nickname.

Performances & Theatre
Dance and theatre productions from the renowned Arearea dance company and international artists, including "Phoenix — studio sulla rinascita" exploring body, landscape memory, and rural ritual.

Live music performances ranging from acoustic sets to electronic soundscapes, featuring both emerging local talents and established international artists from across Europe.
Land Art Installations
New site-specific environmental artworks created by the AESON artist collective and invited international artists, using only natural and sustainable materials from the local area.

A Legacy of Art in Nature (2008–2026)
The 2026 edition marks the 18th anniversary of AESON. Over nearly two decades, the festival has hosted hundreds of artists from countries including France, Chile, Germany, Algeria, Switzerland, Spain, Slovakia, Slovenia, Italy, and Serbia. The 2024 edition alone featured 29 performances with artists from Réunion Island, Chile, Germany, Algeria, and across Europe.
AESON ATLAS — The transborder park of art in nature along the Isonzo River
Beyond the annual festival, AESON ATLAS has expanded the project into a year-round transborder cultural initiative, creating nearly 20 new environmental art installations annually in unconventional locations across Friuli Venezia Giulia and Slovenia — from the Soča Valley to Turriaco, from San Canzian d'Isonzo to Gradisca d'Isonzo. This growing network of artworks has transformed the entire Isonzo River basin into a dispersed cultural park that visitors can explore throughout the year.
Part of GO! 2025 European Capital of Culture
AESON 2026 proudly continues the cultural momentum of GO! 2025 — the historic first cross-border European Capital of Culture shared between Nova Gorica (Slovenia) and Gorizia (Italy). Under the theme "Liminal — Thresholds of the Living," the festival embodies the GO! 2025 spirit of borderless creativity and cross-border cooperation.
The festival is supported by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Promo Turismo FVG, the Slovenian Ministry of Culture, cultural association KUD Morgan, Cassa Rurale FVG, and the municipalities of Fiumicello Villa Vicentina, San Canzian d'Isonzo, and Gradisca d'Isonzo.

Are You an Artist?
AESON is open to dialogue with Italian and international artists, researchers, sculptors, and practitioners working with landscape, natural materials, intangible heritage, and installations in rural and fluvial contexts. Selected artists receive a fee, production support, and accommodation. Applications for the 2026 edition are accepted through March 15, 2026.
