The Grape

Rebula is more than a grape

Rebula has grown on these hills for more than seven centuries — long enough to stop being a crop and become a character. Written into Brda documents since the 13th century, it ripens late, keeps its nerve of acidity, and tastes of the place in a way few grapes dare to.

In Brda, Rebula also means amber. Extended maceration — days or weeks on the skins, the way grandfathers did it — turns the wine deep gold, textured, quietly tannic. The region’s cellars never abandoned the tradition, and the world eventually came knocking.

The secret sits under the vines: opoka, a flysch marl of ancient seabed, poor and free-draining, forcing roots deep and lending the wines their saline, mineral spine. Between the Alps’ cool nights and the Adriatic’s warm breath, around 200 metres up, Rebula finds its voice.

You don’t make Rebula. You listen to it.
